Pictures of A New Fabric Stash Addition: Windowpane Ivory Cotton Gauze

I recently mentioned the addition of a new fabric to my stash! I bought it with the thought to build an early Regency dress and another something or two. Perhaps an 18th century apron? Or an Edwardian blouse? Now I’m also considering a frothy 1908-ish dress. And I’m sure that more ideas will be sparked before I actually construct anything (because there are many other things on the “to be sewn” list that need to come first!). But I did promise pictures. Here they are!

Ivory cotton gauze with windowpane pattern. It’s fairly sturdy, but has a lovely drape and is quite soft to the touch.
It’s semi-transparent. This is with nothing behind it but color.
This is with my hand behind it. You can see the outline of my hand pretty distinctly.

  1. Beautiful — where did you find it? I’m looking for something similar (though, with luck, a larger 1 1/2″ windowpane) to replace a beloved but decaying semi-transparent, white cotton gauze window panel in my book nook and can’t seem to find it anywhere. I can find plain white gauze, even striped gauze, but no windowpane. I would be grateful for some suggestions.

    1. I just came across this while at store looking for other things in Fabric Place Basement here in Massachusetts. It’s not something I’ve gone out looking for, so I don’t have any other recommendations to give you, unfortunately. Thanks for reading and commenting! Good luck finding a replacement fabric for your nook!
